Today I was up and moving about around 9:15. Last night I had an interesting phone conversation with my son concerning writing children's books. Writing children's books!
I always thought if I read to the kids when they young, they would benefit. That's the word in childcare. But they (childcare pundits) forget to add not to get too discouraged if they don't seem to exhibit the expected level of literacy. Maybe it's just dormant and will surface in surprising ways in 25 or 30 years.
One son now reads for pleasure and the other is talking about WRITING.
So what was my lesson? Do what you think is right, and the chances are it will work -- maybe not immediately, but it may still work.
A lesson in patience. Patience.
